My account/notes:
Karaoke here is amusing. Most karaoke places here have terrible video clips. Yes, even worse than the original clips. I had an amusing shock when I first did karaoke and found the clip for my star piece ‘Sit on My Face’ by Monty Python to be, well… I can’t say inappropriate given the content of the song, but you see, I never pictured a comedy song to be taken so seriously when creating a karaoke clip of it.
Still, the clip system of the karaoke at Hotel Dynasti E was a bit of a shock, particularly at the beginning. You see, what we didn’t know from the start was that there are only really about five video clips that are stored and played randomly to go with each song, of varying levels of inappropriateness. It made us slightly uneasy when we first started up the karaoke with Stevie Wonder’s soppy ‘You are the Sunshine of my Life’ and were greeted by what I would describe as softcore pornography with a few clothes on. This was followed by scenes of a white upper-class ballroom dancing couple played throughout Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’. It was only when the raunchy first clip came on again in time with that lovely Lion King classic ‘The Circle of Life’ that it clicked. We didn’t know whether to feel ripped off or relieved.
Apart from that and the fact that the karaoke echo control was broken and the English song selection was relatively small (no Jason Mraz; shameful!) my sister and I had a great time doing karaoke. We were incredibly lucky to find a nice love hotel on Valentine’s day, and a reasonably-priced one at that. We even got a complementary box of chocolates for the occasion. With these Fererro Rocher they spoil us. More than made up for the fact that I tripped over on the way out of a hotel and fell sprawled on wet, hard concrete, grazing my hand, bag flying over my head. Funny perhaps, but not in the least bit dignified certainly.
